JK Rowling Responded Perfectly To a Fan Who Didn't Like That Dumbledore Is Gay

A few years ago, after JK Rowling finished the last of her "Harry Potter" novels, the author revealed a character secret to fans: Albus Dumbledore, headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, was gay.

The reaction to this news was sometimes positive, sometimes negative...but just recently, Rowling took the time to respond to a fan who had a less than positive response.

"Thank you for writing Harry Potter," the fan tweeted at Rowling. "I wonder why you said that Dumbledore is gay because I can't see him in that way."

Rowling is selective in responding to fans, but took the time here to reply directly to the fan. "Maybe because gay people just look like...people?" she wrote.

Those who saw the interaction applauded Rowling, and that includes the fan who sent the original tweet, who seems to have changed her mind. "Amazing answer," she wrote. "Yes you are absolutely right. Such an inspiration!!!"

And that, friends, is the power that JK Rowling has with words.
