Jimmy Kimmel Sounds Off on Trump's Nuclear War Threats

While the Twitterverse debates on whether threatening nuclear war violates Twitter's policies against cyberbullying, the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! weighed in on the controversy. Jimmy Kimmel took the president to task for getting in an unhinged threat battle with North Korea's leader and also for taking credit for the lack of airline crashes over the last eight years.
Jimmy Kimmel's first monologue of 2018 focused squarely on Donald Trump's many Tuesday tweets, including a terror-inducing whose-nuclear-button-is-bigger threat to North Korea's dictator.
Kimmel noted that Trump had tweeted eight times before 10 a.m. Tuesday, and then read out Trump's later tweet that mocked the size and effectiveness of Kim Jong-un's nuclear button.
Tuesday evening, Trump tweeted "North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un just stated that the 'Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times.' Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!"
The tweet has left people shaking their head with concern and many wondering whether the president's tweet violated Twitter's term of service; however, Kimmel managed to find some humor in the news.
"Happy New Year, everybody! We have two maniacs with nuclear warheads bragging about who has the bigger button.”
Kimmel also went after one of Trump's earlier tweets, in which he seemed to take credit for the fact that there were no deaths in commercial aviation last year. Kimmel said that one "could very well be [Trump's] tweet of the year."
The president tweeted, "Since taking office I have been very strict on Commercial Aviation. Good news - it was just reported that there were Zero deaths in 2017, the best and safest year on record!"
"Wow, great job. Not since Harrison Ford was president have we felt so protected on a plane," Kimmel joked, referencing Ford's role as commander in chief in the thriller Air Force One.
Kimmel also used stats to point out that what happened in 2017 wasn't such a rare feat.
