Jim Carrey Reunites With 'Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls' Writer/Director Steve Oedekerk

Jim Carrey is getting back into what he does best—being ridiculous.

Carrey is reuniting with Steve Oedekerk, who penned Carrey’s successes “Bruce Almighty” and “Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls” (which he also directed).

Carrey has put his name onto “Stanicky,” which will be produced by Summit, Michael De Luca, and John Jacobs of Smart Entertainment.

The movie is described as having a similar ensemble comedy feel as “The Hangover.” In it, three teens pull a prank… but in the process accidentally burn down a house in the neighborhood. They create a fake person to take the blame—Ricky Stanicky. They continue to blame mishaps on poor Ricky Stanicky for 20 years, and using him to get out of situations, until finally their significant others force them to set up a meeting with Stanicky. Desperately, they hire an out-of-work actor to play the role.

Oedekerk is re-writing a script by Jeff Bushnell (who will be executive producing with Michael Aguilar and Zac Unterman).

The project was picked up in 2010, with James Franco attached to the role of Stanicky. However Franco has since moved on. Joaquin Phoenix was briefly considered, but oddly, Carrey was considered a better fit for the comedic role.

It will begin production this summer. Lionsgate president of production Erik Fieg and executive vice president of production and development Jim Miller will oversee the project.

Until then, you can see Carrey in “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone,” and will also be appearing in “Kick-Ass 2” as Colonel Stars and Stripes.
