Jessica Biel Out Of 'The Wolverine' Running
by Sean ComerDeadline jumped the gun during San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, and it appears IMDb still hasn't gotten the memo.
As Jessica Biel worked the annual convention promoting her upcoming turn in a remake of "Total Recall" co-starring Colin Farrell and Kate Beckinsale, Deadline leaked rumors that Biel could soon be headed toward starring in 2013's "X-Men" spin-off sequel "The Wolverine" alongside Hugh Jackman.
To her credit, Biel cautioned us all that talking about it would amount to no more than just that: talk.
"It's a little too early to say," she said.
Far, far too early, it seems. Deadline broke the bad news today that the future Mrs. Justin Timberlake indeed won't be playing the scheming, deadly Viper. The brief report states only that "talks fell apart and it's not going to happen," and that director James Mangold will start meeting with new prospects to play the part.
Whoever steps up will be taking a part seemingly well-suited to Biel: that of a weapon-savvy assassin with a penchant for blackmail that earns her a marriage to Jackman's Wolverine - and the affections of the X-Man's other confirmed nemesis this go-round, Silver Samurai. It's not unlike the job description Biel met when she portrayed vampire hunter Abigail Whistler 2004's "Blade: Trinity" - minus the nefarious tendencies, of course.
Curiously enough, reputable lexicon IMDb still lists Biel as starring. It's entirely possible that someone got a tad overzealous this week when adding Biel to the listed cast before receiving a 20th Century Fox official confirmation. As it stands, "The Wolverine" hits theaters July 26, 2013.
