Jerry Bruckheimer Promises 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' Won't Be a Muddled Mess

There's a quote from "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" where an onlooker watching Captain Jack Sparrow in action says, "It's as if he's just making it up as he goes."

Well, if you saw "POTC: AWE" you might have felt the same way about the writers. The story was such a muddled, complicated mess than it made little sense, if any. When you surprise an audience at the last second by informing them that one of the characters is a sea god that can transform into a giant and create a storm, then you know you didn't think things through.

Luckily for us, it seems that producer Jerry Bruckheimer knows that the last movie was a mess: "I always like clear storytelling," said Bruckheimer at CinemaCon. "['At World's End'] was a little difficult to follow."

New to the series is director Rob Marshall, who replaced Gore Verbinski. Marshall mentioned that he "spent a lot of time" on the script and is "trying to give the story of sense of clarity." His use of the word "trying" is a little disheartening, but it's good to know that the "Pirates" team is aware of the quagmire that was the story of "At World's End."

I had sworn off "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies after the last one, but if enough changes are made to the storytelling, maybe these guys can convince me to go again. Are you excited for "On Stranger Tides," or have you had enough "Pirates?" Let us know!
