Jay-Z Creating The Score For 'Great Gatsby'
by Shannon KeirnanJay-Z and producer the Bullitts are now known to be responsible for the upcoming “The Great Gatsby” adaptation. The collaboration will be creating and recording the score for the highly anticipated Baz Luhrmann flick.
Jeymes Samuel of the Bullitts released the news via Twitter when he noted,
"Jay-Z and myself have been working tirelessly on the score for the upcoming #CLASSIC The Great Gatsby! It is too DOPE for words!"
There was some speculation Jay-Z might have been involved due to his song “No Church in the Wild,” which plays in the Gatsby trailer and also features Kanye West.
No official confirmation was released, however, until now.
This will be Jay-Z’s first debut as a film composer, although he has worked on the soundtrack for video game "NBA 2k13." He has also recorded original songs for movies such as “Blue Streak.”
The movie was originally to hit theaters this winter, but has been moved back to May. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, and Isla Fisher.
Judging from the trailer it also features a lot of flashy opulence and musical numbers in typical fast-paced Baz Luhrmann style.
Luhrmann was also responsible for the popular “Moulin Rouge” and “Romeo + Juliet,” which also starred DiCaprio. Both feature similar anachronistic music against a classic setting.
What do you think of Jay-Z’s responsibility on the picture? Can he bring that perfect sound to the bouncing, highly charged classic flick?
