Jamie Foxx in Talks For the Daddy Warbucks Role in 'Annie'

Jamie Foxx may have lined up his next big picture.

Currently working on “The Amazing Spider-Man” sequel, where he portrays electrically charged villain Electro, Foxx is now in talks to get on board the new “Annie” project.

Produced by Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett-Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment, along with Jay-Z and his Marcy Media, the film was originally intended to put Willow Smith into the role of Annie. However, she outgrew the part, and “Beasts of the Southern Wild” star Quvenzhané Wallis took over.

There was some talk of potentially putting Justin Timberlake into the Daddy Warbucks role, but now we know that Foxx has receieved an offer and is in negotiations.

The traditional “Daddy Warbucks” name, however, apparently has to go. The character’s new moniker is “Benjamin Stacks…” referring, obviously, to big ol’ piles of money.

The 45-year-old has certainly proven he has singing chops to throw on top of his acting talent. He’s garnered an Oscar and Golden Globe for portraying musician Ray Charles in “Ray,” as well as appearing in “Dreamgirls,” and releasing several R & B albums which won him an Emmy.

The flick will be directed by Will Gluck (“Friends with Benefits,” “Easy A”), and is based off of a revised script by Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna.

With production aiming to start soon, expect the musical to hit theaters sometime late 2014.
