James Franco Set to Star in Time-Traveling Hulu Show by Stephen King
by Andy Neuenschwander
If you think James Franco has taken some weird roles in the past, wait until you hear about this one.
Franco is set to star in "11/22/63" (yes, that's the title), a TV show based on the book by Stephen King. The show centers on an English teacher (Franco) who travels back in time in order to prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963.
It's a crazy concept, but the team behind the show is impressive: source material from King is usually a good thing, and J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot productions will be producing the series exclusively for Hulu.
With that kind of creative team and with a big name like Franco's attached, this could be the boost Hulu needs in order to keep its original programming on par with the likes of Netflix and Amazon. While Hulu does produce decent original shows like "The Wrong Mans," they Haven't quite caught on in the public consciousness in the way that "House of Cards" and "Orange is the New Black" have for Netflix and "Transparent" has for Amazon.
King has a history of his material being brought to the screen, but it's mostly his movies that do well critically and commercially ("The Shawshank Redemption" and "The Shining" are the biggest examples). Recently, King-adapted TV series have included "Haven" and "Under the Dome."
