James Brolin Joins NBC's 'Community' For One-Off Performance

James Brolin Joins NBC's 'Community' For One-Off Performance If this does turn out to be the final bow for NBC's cult-beloved "Community," then why not indulge a big-reveal moment or two?

Yahoo! OMG confirmed via TV Guide Tuesday that veteran actor James Brolin is Greendale-bound. He's reportedly in for but a single episode, but the respected star and co-star of big and small screen works from the 1961 TV series "Bus Stop" and 1979's original "The Amityville Horror" to a 2009 episode of USA's "Psych" will be playing no less than Jeff Winger's father.

Brolin shot father-son scenes Tuesday with Joel McHale as William Winger, who has been estranged from his son since stepping out of his life when Jeff was but a wee lad. McHale tweeted that chummy-looking photo earlier today during a break in shooting.

McHale's definitely got range - he also appears in the current, fifth season of FX's "Sons of Anarchy" as an ex-convict - but this really sounds like some special, perhaps a brief departure from the standard "Community" esoterica.

Either that, or that was some mighty convenient dust wafting into Yvette Nicole Brown's eyes during the shoot.

"Community" returns for its 13-episode fourth, possibly final season Friday, Oct. 19 at 8:30 p.m. ET - its first night shifting from its familiar Thursday-night slight to Fridays.
