It's Official: James Spader Is Coming To 'The Office'

It's Official: James Spader Is Coming To 'The Office' As of July 6, it appears official: James Spader will be making himself at home – at least, temporarily – in Michael Scott’s old digs for the eighth season of “The Office,” TVLine reports.

Spader will reprise his “high-class weirdo Jedi warrior” sales juggernaut Robert California when the new season kicks off, according to executive producer Paul Lieberstein.

He further hinted that the story will indicate he nabbed the new managerial position over the summer after interviewing for the gig during the seventh-season finale, but earns a promotion to new CEO of Sabre within hours of moving into his new position.

It was just last month that TVLine reported that former “Sopranos” star James Gandolfini was offered a chance to succeed the departing Steve Carell as manager, but politely declined.

It’s also been reported for a while now that Dunder Mifflin would be promoting from within to fill the vacancy, bumping either Jim (John Krasinski), Dwight (Rainn Wilson) or Andy (Ed Helms), though previous story arcs have experimented with Jim and Dwight running the show with questionable results.

Either way, Spader is no stranger to small-screen success. He’s a veteran of both “The Practice” and “Boston Legal,” where he won three Emmys as a cast regular.
