'Iron Man' Writers Hired for 'Tomb Raider' Reboot

Good news for those who are excited about the "Tomb Raider" reboot! The rest of you can continue about your business.

GK Films has just hired Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, who wrote "Iron Man" and also win the award for Most Oddly-Named Writing Duo, to pen the script for the new "Tomb Raider" movie.

Those who saw "Iron Man" will know why this is such good news: the team put together an impressive script for the first film, featuring snappy dialogue, a simple yet involving story, strong characters, and a fascinating origin.

That last point about the origin is an important one, as the new "Tomb Raider" film is set to be an origin story for Lara Croft. GK Films released a statement saying that they hope the film "solidifies her place alongside Ellen Ripley and Sarah ConnorĀ in the pantheon of great female action heroes."

If the "Iron Man" credit doesn't convince you, consider also that the many projects Fergus and Ostby have worked on include the Oscar-nominated "Children of Men," and the buzz-worthy upcoming films "Cowboys and Aliens" and "Akira."

There's still no news about casting, but this is a good step in the right direction for "Tomb Raider" and will help it meet its goal of a 2013 release. We'll keep you posted as GK looks for its new Lara.
