Chris Pratt Won't Be Indiana Jones

In a recent interview with Total Film magazine, the producer of the upcoming Indiana Jones sequel laid down some of his ground rules for the film's casting. The good news, if you're an Indiana Jones traditionalist, is that you won't have to accept another actor in the role made famous by Harrison Ford. The bad news, if you're a fan of Chris Pratt, is that that actor won't be taking on the role of Dr. Jones.

Producer Frank Marshall says that the upcoming film will not be "doing the Bond thing," that is recasting the franchise's main role periodically. While it's unclear exactly what that means for the plot of the sequel, it does seem to mean that the film's central character -- assuming that it's not played by Ford -- will be someone other than Indiana Jones. That character, whoever it is, could still be played by Pratt, although Marshall says that Pratt is just one of many actors who could be considered for the part.

Let's hope that the actor cast in the role is better able to take up Jones' iconic hat and bullwhip than Shia Labeouf was in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Labeouf's role as Jones' son in that film seemed to be an attempt to pass the franchise on to a new character, but the attempt fell flat with critics and audiences alike.
