VIDEO: Idol Contestant Shares Special Connection with Nate Dogg The sudden passing of rapping legend Nate Dogg was hard news for “American Idol” contestant Jacob Lusk. Lusk shared a special connection with the “Regulators” star.

In 2007, Lusk auditioned for Nate Dogg’s gospel group, “InNate Praise.” He landed the spot and the two became friends, TMZ reports.

“Nate Dogg gone? Can’t be true… I’m going miss him telling me to CALM DOWN!!!! Or saying  HERE HE GO… .GREAT MAN..I knew him. LOVE YOU MAN!” Lusk shared on Twitter.

Lusk has been wowing judges on “American Idol” and was reduced to tears after his rendition of “God Bless the Child” during Hollywood Week.
