'How I Met Your Mother' Season 9, Episode 20 'Daisy' Recap
by EGThe ominous tone of last week's episode of "How I Met Your Mother" evaporated this week, as "Daisy" dedicated itself to resolving the conflict between Lily and Marshall. By the end of the episode, the next year in the lives of the Eriksen-Aldrin clan is all sorted out, and the focus returns once again to the Ted-Robin-Barney triangle.
In "Daisy," the gang is divided. Ted, Marshall, Barney, Rajit and Billy Zabka are on a mission to figure out where Lily went when she stormed out of the hotel during her big fight with Marshall. The answer to the mystery involves the Captain (Kyle MacLachlan), Boats Boats Boats, "HMS Pinafore," and a lengthy-and-erroneous bit of Mosby-Boys-style detective work.
Meanwhile, Lily, Robin and Robin's mother (Tracey Ullman) are hanging out in the hotel room, and Robin's freaking out because she suddenly realizes all the similarities between Barney and her own father, who was a rotten husband.
The episode's resolution provides some heart-warming news for Marshall and Lily, but it also sets up a cold-feet moment for Robin just hours before her wedding. Attempting to reassure her daughter, Robin's mother tells her that everything will be fine as long as she has someone she can count on. Does she have someone like that? After a long, thoughtful pause, Robin says, yes, she does. She means Ted, of course.
The elephant in the room was last week's implication that the Mother isn't going to survive the series. We get no new clues about the Mother's fate this week (Cristin Milioti's non-denial denial of the Mother's death doesn't count), but one popular piece of fan speculation was proven to be untrue: the Mother's name is not Daisy.
