Marshall’s mom calls. Turns out Marshall didn’t tell her about the move... Oops. She demands to see her grandson before the move, and Marshall invites her to visit… but the apartment is packed up. Marshall say he and Marvin will go visit her since Lily has to work.

Lily is thrilled to get time to herself. She decides to go see Ted’s finished house.

Barney and Robin celebrate having the wedding planning done. They go out for dinner. Barney shows her cigars they have for later, but an uppity couple give them attitude. Robin and Barney realize they are their arch nemesis. When they take Barney’s table, they decide to make them pay.

Lily goes to see the house, and calls Marshall. She realizes Judy is going to talk Marshall out of going to Rome.

The house is beautiful. Lily waxes poetic about the future Ted will have in there, until she sees a “For Sale” sign. Ted tells her he is moving to Chicago.

Barney and Robin plot their revenge. Barney notes that the man is checking out the hostess. They plan to break them up.

Lily insists Ted has to stay in New York so he is there when they come back, maybe with his future bride. Ted thinks maybe she is in Chicago.

Robin comes up with a plan to destroy the couple. She sends over champagne with Robin’s engagement ring. The woman happily accepts, but he tells her that it was an accident, and they fight.

Ted tells Lily he is leaving the day after the wedding. She can’t figure out why Ted is doing this—until she realizes that Ted isn’t leaving New York because  the love of his life isn’t in New York. It’s because she is, and marrying his best friend.

Marshall gets an unexpected call—he is invited to be a New York judge starting in a week.

Barney and Robin sit outside, smoking their cigar and celebrating. The couple come up to confront them… they’re getting married.

Lily asks Ted what is going on, and, he tells her what happened with Robin and the locket. He admits there is a part of him that still wants to always make Robin smile. He says if he could open a vein in his arm and bleed out the locket he would. Lily says she knows where the locket is.

A few years back, when Ted was engaged to Stella, Robin was upset that Ted wasn’t marrying her. Drunk Robin goes to the park and digs up the locket. She says she was planning to wear it for her wedding to Ted but now she’ll take it to Japan with her, where she plans to get away from Ted. Lily has her put it in a pencil box. Ted realizes the locket is still on his desk. He gets excited to give it to her—but Lily warns him to be careful.

It is 56 hours before the wedding. Everyone, packed, heads out. Robin worries she is forgetting something, but Barney insist she isn’t. They kiss.

Ted asks Lily not to tell anyone about Chicago. He plans to take the train out of Farhampton early Monday.

The woman with big boots, a guitar, and a yellow umbrella gets her ticket to Farhampton.
