'How I Met Your Mother' Season 7, Episode 14 Recap - '46 Minutes'

'How I Met Your Mother' Season 7, Episode 14 Recap - '46 Minutes' The fanfare for the 150th episode of "How I Met Your Mother" was quiet, but effective. Other shows might take a milestone like this to do an hour-long episode, have a character die, or do something equally outlandish. But in "46 Minutes," the show simply gives us the impression of a big change, but calmingly pets us and tells us it will all be okay while it does so.

The big change was this: Marshall and Lily are finally moving to the suburbs. The episode starts, as it should, at the bar with a quick flashback to when the couple announced they were officially moving to Long Island. That was followed by the only special fanfare-like moment, as the opening titles were changed with Barney's exuberant new lyrics over his excitement about being the "new leader of the gang." Fun! Understated. Nice.

And thus begins a split episode with Marshall and Lily doing their thing, and Barney/Robin/Ted doing their thing (with the help of Kevin).

Marshall and Lily's "thing" is dealing with Lily's dad, Mickey, who shows up upon hearing about the pregnancy and begins to slowly drive the two of them insane with his meddling in how they set up the house. It mostly involves moving things around and attracting ants with nightstand fudge, eventually leading to Marshall telling him to get out.

But things get fun in this storyline when the fuse blows in the house and Marshall (with a night vision camera strapped to Jason Segel) must find his way to the basement as the insulted Mickey does his best horror movie villain impression, later turning into either Al Powell from "Die Hard" or Rex Kramer in "Airplane!"

Fun as that storyline was, Barney was a standout in this episode as he gleefully took over as leader of the gang. This involved getting the gang to go to a strip club, where they met up with Lily's Russian stripper doppelganger (whom Barney named "Better Lily"), then went to an underground poker game, then got robbed by Better Lily and her boyfriend New Marshall when they were promised entry into a party.

Robin and Kevin's relationship made another appearance (yep, that's still going) as they played "relationship chicken," which is defined as the early part of a relationship when you never say no to anything out of fear of seeming boring or unadventurous. Apparently they went skydiving.

All of this (and Ted's ex-boyfriend-like calls to Marshall and Lily) made for a really charming ending to the episode: Ted, Robin and Barney show up at Marshall and Lily's place to have breakfast in their new booth, because (as Ted puts it) "our booth was wherever the five of us were together."

Aww.
