'How I Met Your Mother' Renewed!
by Shannon KeirnanFans of “How I Met Your Mother” can breathe a sigh of relief at last, because it has just been confirmed that the show will be returning to the air for a ninth season.
Originally, creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas were treating the current eighth season as the last, due to unfinished negotiations with the cast. CBS was eager to maintain the show, but cast members weren’t sure about returning. Rumor has it that it was Jason Segel, who plays Marshall, was the only member who hadn’t finally agreed to return.
Hard to blame him, however. Since the show began Segel’s film career has taken off with hits like "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," "The Muppets," and "The Five Year Engagement," just to name a few.
However Segel had a sudden change of heart, and announced that he would be willing to stay on the show for one more season.
So far the show has been written to end in May. Will this sudden scramble to adjust the script be detrimental in any way? After all, last episode left audiences with some pretty big news to chew on—spoiler alert if you haven’t see the two-parter:
Barney and Robin got engaged, giving us a little more of an answer for the wedding teasers we’ve been getting off and on. Will this additional season now divert focus from Ted finding The One to focus more on the Barney and Robin plot line? And will that be a good thing...?
Regardless, “How I Met Your Mother” fans are celebrating the return of their beloved characters… and perhaps shaking their fists in frustration that we will probably have to wait one more season to meet this mysterious Future Mrs. Ted Mosby.
