'How I Met Your Mother' Receives Its Final Renewal

The end is nigh for “How I Met Your Mother”.
CBS and 20th Century Fox TV have officially announced the renewal of “How I Met Your Mother” for its 9th and FINAL season.
The news isn’t too surprising, as all five series regulars – Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris, and Alyson Hannigan – renewed their contracts over a month ago.
But what is surprising is that this is confirmed to be the final chapter of the story.
With the nature of the storytelling featured in this series, showrunners Carter Bays and Craig Thomas have said they would need at least a year’s notice of the end in order to properly tie up the numerous loose ends.
When starting season 8, Thomas revealed “We’re writing this season like it’s the end. We’ll have to have a Plan A and a Plan B going.”
But now that the end is in sight, they can rest easy knowing they have the rest of season 8, and then an assumed 22 episodes in season 9 to give us the finale we’ve all be waiting for.
So, the question remains. Will we be meeting the mother in season 8, or will they keep her a secret until season 9?
If she has already been cast, the production team has been super secretive about it.
It’s well known that Ted meets the mother at Barney and Robin’s upcoming wedding, but will she actually be revealed?
