'How I Met Your Mother' Finally Answers 'Pineapple Incident' Mystery

'How I Met Your Mother' Finally Answers 'Pineapple Incident' Mystery "How I Met Your Mother" may be over and done with, but there's one mystery that remained all the way through to the series finale.

Just where exactly did Ted get the pineapple from?

If you'll remember back to the first season, there's an episode titled "The Pineapple Incident" that has Ted waking up after a night of heavy (very heavy) drinking with two surprises: a girl in his bed and a pineapple on his night stand.

Unfortunately, even with all of the flashback-ing that "HIMYM" does, Ted and the gang never solved the mystery of the pineapple. Even when the show revisited the topic in season nine, the origin of the piece of tropical fruit remained unknown.

But with a new deleted scene, we might finally have an answer!

Buzzfeed has an exclusive deleted scene from the upcoming DVD set that has Ted wrapping up his meeting with The Captain, Zoe's husband, in season 9, episode 20. As Ted is leaving (and just after a line from The Captain about stealing from him), Ted notices a pineapple on The Captain's porch.

"Oh, that's an old sea captain's tradition," The Captain says. "You put a pineapple on your porch as a sign of hospitality. I keep one here and one outside my townhouse in the city."

That finally jogs the memory for Ted: he stumbled across The Captain's townhouse in New York on that night, taking the pineapple with him. Mystery solved!
