'How I Met Your Mother' Fan 'Fixes' Ending: Watch the Video!
by Andy NeuenschwanderWhat a difference an edit makes!
After the finale episode of "How I Met Your Mother" ended, Facebook and Twitter—nay, the whole Internet—was mad about it. And so were we.
Rightfully so, too: Not only was the episode unnecessarily sad, it also seemed to argue semantics to deliver an ending that fans were told repeatedly over the past nine seasons they wouldn't be getting.
But this is the Internet. And if the Internet doesn't like something, it works to change it. Especially if it only involves some clever editing of a video file.
Enter "HIMYM" fan Dylan J. Thomas, who took the last five minutes or so of the finale (presumably completely legally downloaded, of course), re-edited it to his liking, and uploaded the result to YouTube.
Thus was an alternate ending to the series born; one that isn't design to make you cry for the wrong reasons and then get all angry about the ol' bait-and-switch. Here's an ending where nobody had to die, poor Ted gets to be happy with the love of his life, and...well, Barney and Robin still end up pretty unhappy, but hey, maybe they give it another go in the future, eh?
