The 'How I Met Your Mother' Conspiracy Theories: Is The Mother Dead??

The 'How I Met Your Mother' Conspiracy Theories: Is The Mother Dead?? After last week’s “How I Met Your Mother” episode, “The Time Travelers,” speculation on the Internet got… well, a little weird.

Bill Kuchman addressed the latest “HIMYM” conspiracy theories in an article that appeared on the website of Goliath National Bank (the fictitious bank where Barney works), Kuchman addresses the can of worms opened by “The Time Travelers.”

Theory One:

The Mother is dead.

“This theory is actually one of the oldest ‘HIMYM’ theories out there, speculating that Ted is telling his two teenage children the story about how he met their mother after she’s passed away.”

So Ted’s tearful plea for more time together to the unseen woman in the episode, according to Kuchman, has been interpreted “as a sign that at some point in the future, the Mother will be taken from him.”

Wha-at? Surely not… How depressing would that be?

Kuchman reminds that several flash-forward episodes are shown, and “the Mother never appears in them.” This is the longest story of all time... wouldn't she interrupt at some point? Wouldn't she tell Ted to stop discussing his sexual escapades in such detail?

However Kuchman adds, “Something that Ted said in ‘The Time Travelers’ made me question whether we’re looking at the ‘the Mother is dead’ theory all wrong… ‘Until the end of my days ... and beyond…’ Odds are that few people actually pay attention to ‘HIMYM’ credits, but it's worth noting that Bob Saget has never been named as the voice of Future Ted Mosby.”

Wait, wait wait.

Theory Two:

Ted is dead and the narration of Bob Saget is just a friend reading a death-bed letter to the children, or similar.

All of these theories are terrifically sad considering how hopefully viewers have tuned in to watch Ted find love.

Hence Kuchman’s third theory… that audiences are reading way too much into “The Time Travelers.”

“It's always been about hope,” Kuchman reminds us. “Even in his loneliest moments, Ted has believed that he’ll find "the one," that he’ll fall in love and finally have the life he’s wanted since we first met him back in Season 1. Personally, I'll be disappointed if—after nine seasons of watching Ted try to find his soulmate—we learn that one of them died soon after. But that doesn't mean it's out of the question...”

What do you think of the theories, “HIMYM” fans? Interesting, total bogus... or both?
