How I Met Your Father?: CBS Considers 'How I Met Your Mother' Spin-Off
by EG"How I Met Your Mother" is coming to an end this season, but if the series' creators get their way, the show's premise might live on in a new spin-off series. CBS and the producers of the hit comedy are reportedly in early negotiations for a new series that would launch a new set of characters on a new search for a new parent.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, the creators of "How I Met Your Mother," and Emily Spivey, creator of "Up All Night," have pitched the idea of a sort of "How I Met Your Father," a series in which a female character tells the story of how she discovered her mate in the same way that Ted delivers the story, in the current series, of how he met his kids' mother.
The new show would not feature any of the characters from the current series, but it could potentially share a setting, particularly MacLaren's Pub, where Ted and his friends hang out. There's also the possibility that the new series' characters could be introduced at the conclusion of "How I Met Your Mother."
"How I Met Your Mother" is currently the anchor of CBS's Monday-night line-up, but the series will end at the conclusion of this, its ninth season. The departure of the highly rated series will leave the network with a big hole in its sitcom offerings, and a spin-off series with a familiar format is likely an attractive option.
