'Hunger Games' Tops 'Twilight' With Record Advance Ticket Sales

The hype is now official. Advance tickets went on sale for "The Hunger Games" yesterday (yes, that's just about a month in advance) and to put it lightly, things went very, very well.

According to Fandango, "The Hunger Games" set a first-day advance ticket sales record yesterday, selling out more than 100 screenings across the country. The record marks the biggest day of advance ticket sales for Fandango in the 12 years it has been in business.

That means, of course, that "The Hunger Games" beat out "Twilight" movies in terms of advance tickets over Fandango. The previous record belonged to "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," which had a big day of advance sales back in May of 2010.

Does this mean that "The Hunger Games" will outperform "Twilight" at the box office? It's too early to say for certain, but this is an excellent sign for the brand-new franchise. It is notable that the previous record belonged to a "Twilight" sequel, while "The Hunger Games" is the first movie in the series, usually meaning that it is unlikely to have much pre-release hype. I guess all of those motion posters and slow-played viral campaigns paid off.

Of course, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2" has yet to hit theaters, and could end up setting its own advance sales record.

Did you buy an advance ticket? Are you more excited for "The Hunger Games" or "Breaking Dawn Part 2?"
