'Hunger Games' Will Now Be a Stage Play in England

There are a lot of old adages in theatre, but "May the Odds Be Ever In Your Favor" isn't one of them...until now.

"The Hunger Games" is being adapted for the stage by a team-up of Dutch and American production companies, with the aim of premiering as a stage show in London in 2016.

"Robin de Levita and the entire production team are the perfect partners for extending The Hunger Games franchise into a live theatrical experience," Lionsgate said in a press release. "Their creative genius, combined with world-class production values and state-of-the-art technology will provide a uniquely immersive experience for fans around the world."

Considering the epic action sequences and layers of special effects that went into the movie, one has to wonder how the stage will accomodate everything that needs to happen in order to tell the story.

However, De Levita is confident that it's the right medium. "The theater is a fantastic medium to bring the many meaningful layers of Suzanne Collins’ writing to life," he said.

The companies claim that they will use "innovative and immersive staging techniques" in order to bridge the gap from screen to stage, and it's true that many recent productions have featured impressive live effects. The "Aladdin" musical, for example, brings the Genie to life on stage, and Julie Taymor's Spider-Man musical was famously intricate in its use of special effects.

We only have one question: Why not a "Hunger Games" musical? We can just hear President Snow's addresses being sung in a deep, threatening bass. Maybe a patter song from Effie? A three-way romantic duet between Katniss, Peeta and Gale? The possibilities are endless!
