'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay' Adds New Character Not From the Book
by Andy NeuenschwanderIf you've been wondering how Lionsgate is going to split Mockingjay, the third book in the Hunger Games trilogy, into two movies, this might be your answer.
Today on the official Hunger Games Facebook page, the production announced the casting of Robert Knepper as "Antonius."
That led to much confusion among fans, as many of them could not remember a character named Antonius in the books. There's a reason for that: He wasn't in the books at all!
With this, it looks as though the final two installments of "The Hunger Games" will be deviating from the source material somewhat. When you consider that the book, which is not much longer than the first two, is being split into two movies, that makes sense.
So, who will this Antonius be? Spoilers follow!
With the production having to stretch out one book into two movies, chances are good that any added material will follow the villains, as was the case in the first two movies.
As such, it's most likely that Antonius is another villain, perhaps one who serves President Snow. If true, this would also likely mean that we'll go behind the scenes of Peeta's brainwashing and Johanna's torture at the hands of the Capitol.
The other possibility is that Antonius is one of the rebels, however the story following Katniss in District 13 is stocked with too many characters already, and is unlikely to need more.
We'll have to wait until the November 2014 release of "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1" to know for sure!
