'Hunger Games' Fans Create Awesome Panem Map: See It Here!
by Andy NeuenschwanderNever, ever doubt the Internet. We're about a week away from the release of "The Hunger Games," and a couple of fans have created a little treat for us: an awesome map of all the districts of Panem.
For those unfamiliar with "The Hunger Games," it takes place in a dystopian future in the ruins of what once was North America. The new continent is called Panem, and is divided into twelve districts, plus a capitol city.
Many fans out there have made their own maps of how they imagine Panem to be, but two Livejournal users (aimmyarrowshigh and badguys) have what may be the most accurate one. The amount of thought that went into planning this map is pretty impressive: they considered how the mysterious geological cataclysm would have re-shaped the continent, how the districts would have been placed according to distance from the Capitol, and how much land they would have taken up as according to their function.
The result? Well, if you're in the grain-growing District 11 or the livestock-producing District 10, you at least have a lot of space. District 4 sweeps pretty far down into Mexico, but is all ocean, and District 7 reaches up into Canada for its lumber needs.
Check out the map below, or go to the Livejournal page to see the reasoning behind the divisions and a much larger map. Pretty cool, huh? Is that how you pictured Panem to look?
