Hulu Passes on 'Community': Should We Just Let the Show Die?
by Andy NeuenschwanderIt looks like Five Seasons, An Internet Season, And A Kickstarter-Funded Movie isn't even a possibility now.
"Community" will not be picked up by Hulu, according to a report from TV Line, which says that all talks between the show and the streaming service have stopped. This news comes several weeks after official word that the show was not receiving a renewal from NBC and would be cancelled after five seasons.
However, a source close to the show has said that "Sony doesn't give up easily" and that "a lot can happen in one week."
But that begs the question: Should "Community" even be revived? After a disastrous fourth season that went to air after the firing of creator Dan Harmon, critics turned on the show and, more importantly, it lost support from fans.
Granted, the show made something of a comeback for season five, at least earning some better reviews when Harmon was brought back on. However, the show still lost both Chevy Chase and Donald Glover at different points in the season, leaving some holes in the cast. We love Jonathan Banks as much as anyone, but it changed the dynamic pretty significantly.
So maybe, just maybe, it's best to let "Community" go. The season five finale was a good one, and one that can work as a way to tie up the whole show. Why risk another season, still without Pierce or Troy on board, just to meet the demands of an Internet chant?
Still, we wouldn't necessarily argue with "Five Seasons and an Hour-Long Special, Perhaps of the Holiday Variety."
