Hoping for a 'Vampire Diaries' to 'Secret Circle' Crossover? You're Out of Luck

Hoping for a 'Vampire Diaries' to 'Secret Circle' Crossover? You're Out of Luck Whenever a spin-off comes out, there's a decision that has to be made about the show's aesthetic: do you try to make it like its parent show, or do you branch off and do your own thing?

Kevin Williamson, the executive producer of "The Secret Circle," has a definitive answer. "We want to create our own story," said Williamson of his show, which is spin-off from "The Vampire Diaries."

That means that if you were hoping for a crossover episode sometime soon between "Vampire Diaries" and "Secret Circle," you're out of luck: Williamson is nixing the idea. "I just don't think you'll see that crossover," he said. "That would kind of limit us."

In fact, Williamson has gone so far as to choose Vancouver as a location to shoot the show, instead of Atlanta (where "Vampire Diaries" is filmed), as that makes "The Secret Circle" look different from its parent show.

These seem like extraordinary measures, especially considering that the mythology lines up just fine: both shows are based off of novels by L.J. Smith, and while "Secret Circle" focuses more on witches and "Vampire Diaries" more on werewolves and vampires, all three supernatural types (and possibly more) are likely to show up on both at some point.

Maybe somewhere down the road, if "The Secret Circle" finds its own footing and becomes as successful as "The Vampire Diaries," well see Ian Somerhalder head over to New Salem. But for now, it looks like these witches will be left well enough alone.
