Hooray! 'Community' Syndicated by Comedy Central, Airs in 2013
by Andy NeuenschwanderGood news for "Community" fans, as the show just landed a syndication deal with cable's home for comedy (good comedy, anyway), Comedy Central.
Comedy Central Exec David Bernath showed his knowledge of the show and pandered to fans in one fell swoop with his statement on the acquisition: "Within the chaos of the current media landscape, we are fortunate that we live in a timeline where Community comes to Comedy Central. Our staff is celebrating with a game of paintball in the offices today." So full of references! Just like the show itself!
With any luck, this move will have a lasting positive effect for the show, which is coming back from its long hiatus this week, but may or may not get a fourth season. Syndication might help draw in new viewers, though, as those who don't normally catch the show on Thursdays might watch a rerun or two on cable and become converts, thus raising the ratings for the show.
There's a catch: the reruns of "Community" won't air on Comedy Central until late 2013, meaning that the show will have already had to be renewed for not only a fourth, but also a fifth season to still be on the air at the time. Or, the show could go the way of "Family Guy," get cancelled, and come back after strong DVD sales and syndication numbers.
In any case, yay for "Community!" For now, it is no longer the darkest timeline.
