Will 'Honey Boo Boo' Be Ending Soon?
by Shannon KeirnanIs it the end for “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo?"
Not so fast…
June Shannon, otherwise known as The Thing That Spawned Alana (also The Coupon Queen), opened up to Ryan Seacrest about the potential end of the controversial TLC hit.
"Yes, when Alana says she doesn't want to do any more TV, 'I don't want to do any more pageants,' then we're done," June told Seacrest. "We live a normal life… Nothing has really like changed since the show.”
Frankly, that's a fact that concerns those of us less charmed by the redneck-embracing family, but until Alana exercises her free will and announces an end to pageants, Shannon plans to continue on before the cameras.
On her loyal followers, she says, "A lot of our fan base tell us that when they have a bad day they can be able to watch our show and be able to get a good laugh. I actually laugh at the show too, because it is kind of funny, because we know that it was fun filming it… And it's just all about having fun and making memories. A lot of people say that they can relate to us."
Oy. Are there other Honey Boo Boos out there, prancing about? It certainly seems so—the show’s ratings are huge, and that fan base truly does exist. So what’s the appeal?
"I am a parent, first and foremost… I'm also their best friend and able to like come in with other situations. We have fun. We do act crazy a little bit, but we know when to be like serious. But if you're not having fun with your kids and making memories, that's what it is all about at the end of the day, man,” says Shannon.
Indeed it seems that fans of the show appreciate the family dynamics, however unusual they may be. Enough to overlook some of the more serious issues and arguments that the show has sparked?
What do you think?
Is the show exploitative and encouraging bad behavior, or is it a good, old-fashioned down home show about family, friends, and beauty pageants?
