Holy Overkill, Batman! 'Dark Knight Rises' Tickets On Sale Six Months Early
by Andy NeuenschwanderJust the other day we saw Lionsgate decide to put tickets for "The Hunger Games" on sale 74 days in advance, which seemed like a stretch, but since the number carried significance with "Hunger Games" it's understandable.
"The Dark Knight Rises," however, seems to think that "The Hunger Games" didn't go far enough. A mere 74 days is nothing when you're talking about the final Batman movie from Christopher Nolan (probably), so "DKR" decided to go big. They decided to put their tickets on sale six months in advance.
Yes, in a move that as far as I know is completely unprecedented, IMAX tickets for "The Dark Knight Rises" are available now, even though the movie doesn't open until July 20th. That's a little over six months from now.
Now, we did see the second movie in the trilogy, "The Dark Knight," sell out some theaters when it released and become one of the highest-grossing movies of all time in its first weekend, and chances are pretty good that this installment will be as big, if not bigger thanks to this IMAX push (IMAX tickets are, of course, pricier than regular ones).
But still, six months in advance? Who can even plan that far? I mean, I fully plan on being in a theater on July 20th to watch "The Dark Knight Rises," but I may be out of town that day, or sick with pneumonia, or adrift on an ice floe for all I know.
Anyway, if you want to see the threequel of this excellent Batman series at midnight on July 19th/20th at an IMAX theater, it looks like you can buy your $18 ticket now.
