Hey, Sheryl Crow! Play (And Remember) Your Hit!
by Sean ComerIt always seems a little odd, on the surface, when an artist forgets his or her own lyrics.
Well, maybe it does to someone who's never written a song.
But think about it a sec, and someone who's been around the block/world as many times as Sheryl Crow with as many beloved hits as she's written is bound to sing some things so many times, things get a little scrambled.
That's kind of what happened this past Saturday in this Perez Hilton-posted fan video from St. Petersburg, FL. The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter is just a-rockin' out to "Soak Up The Sun" like she probably has millions of times since it was released as the first single from her 2002 spring smash album C'mon C'mon.
So there she is, mid-"I can't afford his gas/So I'm stuck here watchin' TV..." when a decade suddenly catches up with her.
"Oh, what's the words?" she asks, her band never losing its beat.
Of course, as she remembers not much more than a measure or two later, that would be, "I don't have digital/I don't have diddly squat/It's not having what you want/It's wanting what you've got..."
Give her credit: she takes it on the chin and keeps smiling.
"I'm 50, what can I say? My brain's gone to s**t!" she quips to the audience.
