Here's Ian McKellen as an Elderly Sherlock Holmes in 'Mr. Holmes' Trailer
by Andy Neuenschwander
Many actors have taken on the role of Sherlock Holmes, most recently the great Robert Downey Jr. in the movies and equally great Benedict Cumberbatch in the BBC series "Sherlock."
Neither of those actors are Sir Ian McKellen, though, which is what makes this news so exciting.
McKellen is set to play an elderly version of the classic character in the new movie "Mr. Holmes," and the very first trailer is out today.
The film will not likely be as action-packed as other recent version of Sherlock Holmes stories or as McKellen's own other recent roles as Gandalf in the Hobbit movies and Magneto in the X-Men franchise. Rather, the movie will play out as a quieter drama, focusing on Holmes in his later years as he deals with his failing memory and the remnants of the case that sent him into retirement.
In short, it looks amazing.
