Here's the First Trailer for the 'Fantastic 4' Reboot
by Andy Neuenschwander
The first "Fantastic Four" movie came out at a strange time for superhero movies. They were definitely booming, thanks in part to the success of the X-Men franchise, and they were still stuck in a sort of campy, self-aware tone.
Then "Batman Begins" came along and changed the entire course of superhero movies. Suddenly, any movie starring a superhero had to be dark, brooding and gritty, and considering "Fantastic Four" came out the same year as "Batman Begins," it was inadvertently badly timed.
Fast forward to today, and 20th Century FOX has released the first trailer for the reboot of "Fantastic Four" ten years after the original released. Guess which franchise now has a dark, brooding and gritty tone?
The reboot stars Miles Teller ("Whiplash") as Reed Richards, Kate Mara ("House of Cards") as Sue Storm, Michael B. Jordan ("Friday Night Lights") as Johnny Storm, and Jamie Bell ("Snowpiercer") as Ben Grimm. The four of them gain superpowers after traveling to another universe, and it seems as though the movie will focus heavily on that alternate universe where previous installments only used it as a catalyst and then focused on the Four as they dealt with their powers back home.
"Fantastic Four" is set for release on August 7 of this year. Check out the trailer below:
