Henry Cavill on His Version of the Man of Steel

Henry Cavill on His Version of the Man of Steel Henry Cavill, who you might recognize from being incredibly hot on “The Tudors,” is stepping up to play Superman in next summer’s “Man of Steel.”

With not only the pressure on Hollywood to adapt comics well enough to satisfy a loyal audience, but with the added worry of stepping into the much-loved shoes of Christopher Reeves to play the character, Cavill is quick to reassure us about the movie’s cred.

"What I can say is that it's a modernization of the character and a very realistic view of one, obviously, very fantastic individual. It's an unreal situation, but it's approached from a very practical viewpoint. We wanted to make the character easier to identify with."

He adds, "There are a lot of people relying on me to do this well. I gladly accept that responsibility, and it’s a great one to have because it’s a wonderful opportunity. I don't let the pressures get to me because that's going to hinder my performance and, therefore, let people down. So I choose to ignore the pressure side of it and focus on doing justice to Superman."

Those who have been working with Cavill have no concerns about audience’s reaction to Cavill’s interpretation of the hero.

Co-star Michael Shannon, who plays General Zod, spoke of the star:

"I always felt like I was in a scene with Superman, I never looked at him and thought that's just somebody trying to be Superman — he felt like the real deal… I really admire Henry's work ethic. I really haven't seen anybody in this business work quite that hard… Obviously it's a tremendous responsibility, and an intimidating one, to wear that suit. But he had the confidence and the work ethic to accomplish it."

The movie also stars Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and the cast also includes Russell Crowe, Christopher Meloni, and Laurence Fishburne, and is set to be released in June of next year.
