'Hell's Kitchen' Season 9, Episode 7 Recap - '11 Chefs Compete'

'Hell's Kitchen' Season 9, Episode 7 Recap - '11 Chefs Compete' Monterrey's elimination makes the blue team yet another man short, but honestly it's getting to the point where they might benefit by getting rid of some of these guys. It seemed clear that Monty was incapable of cooking anything to temp.

As the episode opens, we're treated to drunk Krupa, which is...disturbing. The next morning, she pays the price with a nasty hangover. Even more unfortunate for her, the morning challenge is to cook with beer. Maybe she's just trying to keep herself from puking, but she's totally out of it in the kitchen.

Carrie and Paul are up first, and though the red team hated Carrie's dish, she gets the point over Paul's excessively bitter salmon.

Elise and Jonathon are up next, and Jonny tries his pineapple on chicken thing again, which fails as badly as the first time. Natalie picks up a point over Jennifer, and Will wins another one and ties it up.

Jamie and Tommy come up last, and both cooked duck...but the point ends up going to Tommy. Was it because of his awkward flirting, or in spite of it?

Anyway, the blue team gets to go race cars while the red team, still on their morning challenge losing streak, having to unload  a bunch of trucks. Elise actually cries. It's going to be one of those days. Here's Elise's suggestion: everybody bring the heavy kegs of beer to the door, and she'll cart them off to the kitchen using the handy hand truck. That pisses the red team off enough to confront Elise about it.

A note about Elise: not only does she say "I'm not here to make friends" for the umpteenth time today, but seeing her in a low-cut tanktop reveals that she actually has HER OWN NAME tattooed on her chest. I'm not kidding. The name "Elise" is tattooed on her right boob. That alone is as revealing about her character as every word she's said so far on this show.

Anyway, the confrontation seems to actually adjust Elise's attitude, enough that she's polite and helpful the next morning. When it comes time for service, the ladies get off to a great start thanks to their new-found co-operation. They run into a bit of a hiccup, though, when it turns out that Elise never drained the salad.

On the blue team's side, Natalie is bringing the whole team down as she's unable to sear her scallops properly. In fact, she's screwing them up so bad that she goes through about 30 scallops without being able to put them out. Luckily, Will steps in and shows her how it's done, which seems to get her on track.

With appetizers out of the way, it's up to Jamie and Krupa to get meat and fish going. They put out some raw fish, but recover soon enough. Unfortunately, Elise goes back into her old habits and starts yelling at everyone. Then Krupa overcooks her Wellingtons.

But that's nothing compared to blue team's Wellington problems: at first the pastry on the Wellingtons is raw, then the next one ends up overcooked. Ramsay kicks Jonathon out of the kitchen for the failure, but Jon insists that it's Tommy's fault because of bad prep.

When Ramsay tells Jonathon to "f**k off," Jonathon decides he's had enough. "I quit. You can kiss my ass," he says as he storms off. That could earn him a trip home pretty easy. Natalie gives Ramsay a bit of attitude when she gets kicked out over her raw fish, though, too.

Ramsay doesn't name a winner, but he's at least a little more polite than usual in dismissing the teams. "Leave me alone, please," he says.

The blue team nominates Jonathon and Natalie...no surprise there. No surprise with Krupa for the red team either, as she couldn't seem to get anything right all day. Their second nominee is Elise, but Ramsay decides that Jamie should step up instead. It doesn't much matter...it'll be one of the other three going home for sure.

Sure enough, Ramsay goes for Krupa. Jonathon may have dodged a bullet there, but Krupa has messed up more than one service, and when she does screw up, she screws up badly.

But Ramsay has something else in store, and we're treated to a "to be continued." Will he kick someone else off? We'll find out Tuesday night.
