'Hawaii Five-0' Help Boosts 'NCIS: L.A.' To Tuesday Triumph
by Sean ComerThe competition likely seemed stiff on paper, but "NCIS: Los Angeles" and "Hawaii Five-0" joined up and out-gunned everybody Tuesday night.
Not only that, but they did so by a solid margin, Deadline reports.
The CBS criminal procedural dramas completed a two-part crossover arc gave the younger "NCIS" a 25-percent boost over the most recent fresh episode, airing three weeks ago. LL Cool J and Co. scored 8 million viewers and a 3.0 adult demographic rating off the team-up. That left the show standing alone as the only one making positive movement last night, matching its flagship "NCIS" lead-in's steady numbers. Elsewhere, "Unforgettable" struck a 1.8, matching its series-low level.
Still, the overall numbers gave CBS an upset duke on a night when NBC's "The Biggest Loser" wrapped a season that had run aground onto controversy. Recall that producers earlier this season were left to address contestant complaints-and several desertions-when previous seasons' contestants were brought back mid-season to compete with current ones for the promised prize money. Last night's hour-long finale drew 7 million viewers and a 2.7 rating, down a a tenth from the previous week's episode, 30 percent down from last season's two-hour finale, and hitting a new series-low mark for season finales.
Jessica Simpson birthed away her pronounced bump yesterday morning, but it sadly didn't translate to a clever good-news wordplay regarding "Fashion Star". Instead, it actually slid a tenth to a 1.5 on the backs of 4 million viewers.
On FOX, "Glee" didn't sustain its Whitney Houston-tribute momentum and fell 11 percent to a 2.4 rating. "New Girl" earned a 2.1 from 6 million viewers, a 19-percent dip. ABC's "Cougar Town" (1.3) and "Last Man Standing" (1.4) offerings both marked 13-percent slides and series lows for both. A 2.3 for the "Dancing With The Stars" results show marked another series low. Finally, the 2.1 that "Private Practice" scored might not look like much, but it won the courtroom drama the 10 PM hour.
