Harry's Law Has Strong First Episode

Harry's Law Has Strong First Episode Kathy Bates moved to TV last night with a bang!

Kathy is starring in a new dramedy airing on NBC called Harry’s Law. In the new series that premiered last night, Kathy is a fired patent lawyer turned criminal lawyer who figures stuff out on her feet.

Actually, the show started out questionable as Harriet (Bates) is fired and leaves her office when two different mishaps hit her – literally – in the first two days.

The timeline is kind of confusing in the show, since a lot seems to happen in one day. There is a court scene, a jail scene and another scene, but when Harry talks to her new assistant, we find out only one day has passed. Script error?

Harry’s Law also stars Brittany Snow as the secretary, but she has yet to do any work – on the show and as an actress. The bulk of her acting was eye shifting as she watched other characters have dialogue. The most complicated thing she had to do was figure out which way to switch her eyes – left or right! It was laughable by the end of the first hour.

The most interesting turn of the show – the character Damien. He is brought in to look like a thug, but we find out he is actually security and cares about the people in his neighborhood. He had a nice character arc in the jail room with the “other” attorney.

So, the first show of Harry’s Law looked promising. If Brittany’s character Jenna can have a little more substance besides selling shoes out of the office, it might be a great surprise hit show. But with Kathy Bates at the helm, how can it not succeed.
