'Harry Potter' Spin-Off Movie 'Fantastic Beasts' Will Be a Trilogy!

Here's some good, if not unsurprising, news: "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is going to be a trilogy!

The new movies are an upcoming spin-off of the "Harry Potter" franchise, meaning they will take place in the same wizarding world that Harry and Hogwarts and everything else that author J.K. Rowling has gifted us with thus far exist.

However, Rowling has noted that the book will not be a direct sequel or prequel to the Harry Potter story. "The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films," she said about the story, "but Newt's story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry's gets underway."

The first movie is set to release in 2016, with the two sequels following in 2018 and 2020.

J.K. Rowling is set to make her screenwriting debut on "Fantastic Beasts," with "Potter" director David Yates returning to helm the films.

This news follows a slew of other announcements from Warner Bros. today, including their full calendar of DC Comics movies to follow the upcoming "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice." WB also officially announced three more LEGO movies, including Ninjago and LEGO Batman films in addition to a direct sequel to "The LEGO Movie."

But for those only interested in Harry Potter related news, Rowling has been teasing lately that she's working on another book, potentially also within the Potterverse!
