Harry Potter the All Time Day 1 Box Office Champ; Beats 'New Moon'

When it comes to the box office, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" just had the biggest single day in history, beating out the "Twilight" film "New Moon" with an insane $92.1 million in first day revenues. "New Moon" dropped $72.7 million on box offices during its debut.

Of course internationally, the story is even bigger. Wednesday and Thursday, "Deathly Hallows 2" brought in $82.5 million in global box office, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Will the film continue its success long-term and go on to break other box office records? Looks that way.

As we reported earlier this week, "Deathly Hallows 2" is currently screening in over 4,375 theaters and over 11,000 screens in North America on Friday.

It has already set a record for the sheer volume of 3D screens to play a single movie, with 3,000 locations and 4,250 screens. Add in the record-shattering 274 IMAX venues and 3,800 midnight screening, and, with reviews being nothing short of breathlessly good, there's basically no way this film could not crush the box office.

Putting it in context, the highest grossing film in the series, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" grossed $317 million playing in 3,672 theaters without the benefit of additional 3D revenues and series-ending buzz. Add on the fact that global interest in the film continues to skyrocket, particularly in Europe, and it looks like Harry will continue to reign triumphant.

At least until "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" comes along...
