Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 managed to just beat out Tangled to hang on to the top spot this Thanksgiving weekend.  Between the boy wizard and the new princess from the Disney film, “Tangled” movie-goers seemed quite keen to take in a film over the holiday weekend.

In the number one spot, Harry Potter brought in another $76.3 million which means the film has totalled $220 million gross for in its first ten days in theatres.

Breaking some records of its own, and far exceeding industry predictions, “Tangled” came in second at the box office with $69 million for its five-day run, which began the evening before Thanksgiving.  The $49 million it pulled in on Friday, Saturday and Sunday alone, puts the film in second place for a Thanksgiving debut, just behind Toy Story 2 which earned $57 million during its Thanksgiving run.

Coming third is the Dreamworks, animated, mega-villain, “Megamind”.  The film brought in another $17.6 million over Thanksgiving bringing its total to a very respectable $130 million.  “Burlesque” opened in fourth with, $17.2 million while, “Unstoppable” rounded out the top five with another $16.2 million this weekend, topping up its total to $60.7 million.

New films, “Love and Other Drugs” and “Faster” were number six and seven on the charts respectively.  The two films performed below expectations bringing in $14 million and $12 million on their opening weekend. The top ten was rounded off with, Due Date ($10.2 million/$85 million), The Next Three Days ($6.6 million/$14.6 million), and Morning Glory ($5.4 million/$26.5 million).

Overall the total take was just behind last year when the films, “New Moon”, “2012” and “The Blind Side” led the box office pack.
