'Harry Potter' Actor Gets Two-Year Jail Sentence
by Sean ComerDon't be anybody's bitch, don't drop the soap, and absolutely do not taunt the Dementors.
One of those rules won't be nearly as important as the others where Jamie Waylett is going.
The "Harry Potter" film co-star who played Draco Malfoy's Slytherin-mate heavy Vincent Crabbe is headed toward a two-year jail sentence handed down in England, Reuters reported Tuesday.
The 22-year-old was found guilty of violent disorder perpetrated during 2011's memorable London riots held amid the infancy of the "Occupy" movement in the U.S. In a mental image I never imagined I would associate with a "Harry Potter" actor, CCTV footage depicted Waylett holding a bomb and drinking stolen champagne. Tempting, the vices of muggles.
He was cleared of an additional charge that he intended to destroy or damage property with the bomb. Begs the question how, since . . . well, it's a bomb. What exactly else was he to do with it? Bombs tend to be designed with a sole intended purpose: explode.
"You chose to go out on to the streets on what was the third day of the violence," Judge Simon Carr said during sentencing. "You were pictured on a number of occasions with a bottle full of petrol with a rag as a wick.
"I accept . . . that you did not throw or have any intention of throwing it, but merely being in possession of it would have been terrifying to anyone who saw you."
A 12-month sentence for handling stolen goods - and, one would guess, probably later converting the "goods" into pee - will run concurrently with his two-year disorder charge sentence. This time, he'll be eligible for release after a year.
It's increasingly apparent why the delinquent "Crabbe" role suited him. In 2009, he was found guilty of growing marijuana in his home. For that discretion, he performed 120 hours of community service.
Now, doesn't this put the Weasley Twins' mischief into better perspective?
