Harrison Ford Actually Broke His Leg, Might Completely Change 'Star Wars Episode VII' Script

Will Han Solo's leg be the downfall of Disney?

A while back, Disney released a statement about an on-set accident involving "Star Wars" star Harrison Ford. According to the statement, Ford had suffered a minor ankle injury on set, but filming would continue on schedule while he recovered at the hospital.

However, new reports from sources close to the production claim that Ford didn't twist his ankle—he actually broke his leg. If that's true, it could mean major changes to "Star Wars Episode VII," as Ford's recovery time could be up to six months.

Ford, as the biggest name on the cast list, was theorized to be the lead in the new "Star Wars" sequel in an effort to appease fans and bring in any non-fans who would be more likely to see a Harrison Ford movie than a Star Wars movie with some lesser-known actors in it.

So if Ford was really going to play that large a role, his injury would push back the production schedule by at least a few months, if not the full six he might need to fully heal. However, Disney has already refused to move back the movie's release date from the current Christmas 2015 release date, so they might continue to stand firm on that.

If they do, that means that the movie might have to go through major rewrites, removing Ford's character from a number of scenes and seriously reducing his involvement.

Ultimately, it will come down to a decision from Disney. Will they opt to stay on schedule and lose their big-name star, choosing to roll the dice with a cast of relative unknowns like Adam Driver, John Boyega, and Gwendolyn Christie? Or will they take a chance with a spring or early summer release, potentially taking a hit to revenue?

Bet they're wishing they had one of those healing chambers like we saw in "The Empire Strikes Back" right about now.
