'The Hangover: Part II' Sets Yet Another Record, Threequel Now Inevitable

Well folks, "The Hangover: Part II" just set another box office record. Over the entire Memorial Day weekend, which includes a lucrative Monday for the film, "The Hangover: Part II" earned $205.1 million globally. That's the fastest a comedy movie has ever reached $200 million. Ever.

Warner Bros. is understandably thrilled. The studio released a rather reserved congratulations to the cast and crew, but you can practically hear them jumping up and down in their offices and squealing with glee.

Because of the tremendous success of the movie, a third installment is all but a guarantee.

According to THR, co-writer Craig Mazin is already in talks with WB to begin working on the script for the threequel, which is rumored to be set in Amsterdam. Naturally...I mean, where else are these guys going to go that could possibly be crazier than both Vegas and Bangkok? Besides Gary Busey's house, of course.

The big question in all this (for me, anyway) is whether or not the movie deserves all this. The reviews were less than stellar (to say the least) and the sequel is as sequel-y as it gets: it's the same plot as the first one, just in a new setting. Chances are pretty good that the third movie will do the same. Not only that, but the original writers that made the first "Hangover" as funny as it was didn't write this sequel...Mazin and his writing team were hired to write "The Hangover: Part II" a couple of months before the first movie came out.

Mazin's other writing credits? "Scary Movie 3," "Scary Movie 4" and "Superhero Movie." Yes, seriously.
