Young Nerf Herders: Who Will Play Han Solo in Upcoming Star Wars Prequel?

When Disney announced its plans to produce a Star Wars prequel featuring a young Han Solo, fan speculation about who would be the perfect actor to portray the scruffy scoundrel began immediately. The studio narrowed the speculation -- and provided fodder for endless arguments online -- when, this week, a rumor of a short list of actors that it's considering for the role hit the internet.

Variety reports that after looking at "thousands" of actors, Disney has settled on a list of "about a dozen" young actors who are still in the running. The names on the list aren't terribly familiar ones; the most famous of them is Miles Teller, who has shown up lately in the Divergent series and last year's disastrous The Fantastic Four. The list also includes relatives of some famous actors, including James Franco's brother Dave and Clint Eastwood' son Scott.

It's still very early in the game for casting decisions. Production on the Han Solo film doesn't beging until January of next year, and its anticipated release date is in 2018. The rumors say, however, that there's some urgency to cast the young Han Solo so that the character can make an appearance in Rogue One, another Star Wars prequel which is already in production and is set for release in December of this year.
