Halloween Treat: 'American Horror Story' Renewed for Season 2

Halloween Treat: 'American Horror Story' Renewed for Season 2 They certainly couldn't have picked a better day for it: "American Horror Story" has been renewed (on Halloween) for a second season! Rejoice, then cower in fear!

This marks the third success for co-creators Brad Falchuk and Ryan Murphy, who also brought us "Nip/Tuck" and "Glee" before selling their new horror series to FX. It's also a big success for FX, which has seen great numbers for "Sons of Anarchy" and has cultivated well-reviewed comedies like "Archer," "Wilfred" and "Louie."

FX president Jon Landgraf had nothing but good things to say: "It’s one thing to have the ambition and guts to reinvent a genre in a way that makes it captivatingly fresh for a broad audience -- it’s something else entirely to have the craft to back that ambition up," Landgraf said.

Whether Murphy and Falchuk have actually "reinvented" the genre or just moved it successfully to television is up for debate, but the success of the show is clear as the ratings have made it the best premiere for the network in a few prime demographics.

What will be interesting is whether or not the ratings stay up after Halloween is over. There's always a market for horror, but will there be enough of one past Halloween to keep the show afloat through season two?
