'Grey's Anatomy' Alum Joins 'Supergirl' Show...But Which One?
by Andy Neuenschwander
Typecasting is a little less insulting when people keep casting you as a doctor.
That's the lesson that "Grey's Anatomy" alum Chyler Leigh is learning: according to E! News, Leigh has landed a recurring role on CBS' new "Supergirl" series, and she'll be playing a doctor!
Leigh will take on the role of Alex Danvers, who is Supergirl's foster sister in this version of the character's origin story. Interestingly, the character description indicates that Alex and Supergirl (also known as Kara Zor-El) grew up together, where in the comics Kara is usually already in her late teens when she appears on Earth.
The show will star "Glee" alum Melissa Benoist as Kara/Supergirl, a native Kryptonian and cousin to Superman who must adjust to life on Earth as a being with extraordinary superpowers. Other confirmed cast memebers include Calisa Flockhart, "True Blood" alum Mehcad Brooks, "The Good Wife" star Laura Benanti and "Homeland" alum David Harewood.
CBS is producing the show, which has a series commitment but not an order; the pilot will likely begin filming soon now that the main cast is forming and its success will determine what CBS does in terms of picking up the series.
