Greta Gerwig Smashes Her New Award Trophy

Greta Gerwig is raking in the awards for her writing and directing work on the indie hit Lady Bird. But she's going to need a replacement for one of the latest. Gerwig was reportedly a bit clumsy with the trophy she got for winning the Best Director award from the National Board of Review on Tuesday. She reprotedly dropped the trophy on the way backstage, and the thing smashed to pieces. Not to worry; Lady Bird is likely to win even more awards for Gerwig, so she can afford to lose one or two.

Greta Gerwig is going to need a stronger grip when she accepts awards this season.

Spies told Page Six that she dropped her trophy after accepting the best director award from the National Board of Review on Tuesday night — and it shattered.

“Stephen Colbert presented her with the award,” a spy related. When they headed backstage, “she was so excited and nervous that the award slipped out of her hands and shattered into pieces onto Cipriani’s marble floor. She kept saying, ‘I can’t believe I just did that!’ ”

But the “Lady Bird” writer-director wasn’t the only butterfingered winner at the awards.

Minutes later, “The Post” producer and former Sony studio boss Amy Pascal broke her best picture award.

“Both ladies felt much less klutzy after that,” said a witness.
