Green Hornet a Box Office Smash in Debut Weekend

Seth Rogen as a blockbuster action star?

The Green Hornet managed to smash box office figures in its opening weekend, taking in an impressive $40 million over the four day holiday. $33.5 million of the total was taken over the normal weekend period. While the movie, which stars Seth Rogen, Cameron Diaz, and Christoph Waltz, got mixed reviews in the press, it did nothing to slow down ticket sales.

According to Yahoo! News, during the debut weekend The Green Hornet stormed to the top of the box office charts, taking in double the amount that relationship comedy, The Dilemma, took in. The Vince Vaughn comedy took in $20.5 million, debuting the same weekend.

True Grit, which stars Jeff Bridges, took the top spot in the box office charts last week, but was knocked into third place by the two movie debuts, taking in just $13 million in profits.

The King's Speech, which has enjoyed some excellent reviews, and stars actor Colin Firth, took in $11 million, putting it in fourth place on the box office listings.

Green Hornet is about a businessman who becomes a masked vigilante superhero, and fights crime with the help of his sidekick and martial arts expert Kato, played by Jay Chou.
