The Green Hornet's Jay Chou Upstages Seth Rogen During Promo Tour in Asia

Taiwanese pop star Jay Chou, who plays the role of Kato in "The Green Hornet," upstaged his co-star and lead actor Seth Rogen during the film’s recent  Asian promotional tour.

Chou is not recognized in Hollywood, but the "Green Hornet" side kick is an incredibly popular singer in Mainland China, Hongkong and Taiwan. Columbia Pictures is hoping to benefit from Chou’s popularity to promote the film in Asia.

The State run China Film Group will release Green Hornet in movie theaters all over China. Li Chow of Columbia Pictures Beijing said, “We have huge expectations for this film.”

During the promotional tour’s press conference, Chou answered questions from Chinese reporters and according to him, "This project felt very good. I had room to be creative. Since my English is not that good, this film was not a formal entry into Hollywood. We'll have to see what develops there for me."

Meanwhile, Seth Rogen was asked to sing one of Chou’s song and he replied, "Just as I wouldn't attempt to paint my own version of the Mona Lisa, I would not attempt to sing one of Jay Chou's songs."

“I don't own any Usher albums, but now I own every Jay Chou album," he added.

On the other hand, French director Michel Gondry told reporters, "We didn't really know Jay was such a star when we started looking at this movie. But when we saw his films, we saw he was cool and natural."

The Green Hornet topped the US box office last weekend, and there is a 100% possibility that the movie will be a big hit in Asia, especially considering Chou’s popularity and the fact that it is the first Hollywood movie to premiere during the Chinese New Year.

Chou and Rogen’s next stop for the film’s promotional tour will be in South Korea, Japan and Taiwan respectively.
